Structured ASA Learn to Swim lessons provided by our qualified ASA instructor.

ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS)

The NPTS is the ‘National Syllabus’ produced by the National Governing Body for
Swimming, the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), to assist and support the
delivery of swimming lessons. It is a single pathway for swimmers to learn how to
be competent and confident in the water.

  • Stage 1 – Developing basic safety awareness, movement skills and water confidence.
  • Stage 2 – Developing safe entry to the water, including jumping in. Basic floating and encouraging child to travel up to 5m on front and back.
  • Stage 3 – Developing safe entries including full submersion. Travel up to 10m on front and back. Progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge. At this stage, the swimmer will be assessed without the use of aids or support.
